What is Stephen Ministry?
Stephen Ministry is a non-denominational program founded in 1975 by Lutheran minister and psychologist, Dr. Kenneth Haughk. Currently there are over 6,000 congregations worldwide participating in this distinctively Christian, confidential, one-to-one ministry.



A Stephen Minister cares for someone who is...
An adult (18 years+) who is a part of our church family (do NOT have to be a member) OR connected to our church family who is:

  • Hospitalized or experiencing recovery
  • Grieving the loss of a loved one
  • Lonely or discouraged
  • Separated or in the process of a divorce
  • Dying, as well as the family members of those who are seriously ill
  • Experiencing job loss or financial setback
  • Burdened with the daily care of another person
  • Struggling with their faith
  • Pregnant or feeling overwhelmed by parenthood
  • Battling challenging family dynamics
A Stephen Minister IS
  • A child of God who walks beside a hurting person
  • A caring Christian friend who really listens
  • A lay person who has received 50 hours of training in Christian care-giving
  • Compassionate, full of empathy
  • Full of faith
  • Skilled
  • Trustworthy




A Stephen Minister is NOT
  • A counselor or therapist
  • A problem-solver
  • A casual visitor
